E120 - Angela Greensill - Pandemic Affected Comedian Turned Children’s Author
Tuesday Sep 26, 2023
Tuesday Sep 26, 2023
What can I tell you about this week's guest …..
Angela is a seasoned performer with 3 Melbourne Comedy Festival Solo Shows under her belt. She has been a support act for many of the big names of comedy and she was a finalist in the Kings of Comedy contest and a preliminary finalist in Melbourne in the Raw Comedy contest. More recently she has been a writer for, ‘Mainland Tonight’, and ‘Pitch’. Angela is known for her razor-sharp wit and has been pleasing audiences in all the best venues in Melbourne.
Angela has a rare auto-immune condition, so when covid hit she had to lay low until they found a vaccine. It gave Angela a chance to focus on writing. Rather than her usual comedy writing, Angela enjoyed where her brain went when writing for children. Angela first started writing funny little stories for her niece but soon realized there was a bigger audience for her stories. Angela’s main aim as an author is for children to laugh while they learn. Angela grew up on a farm in regional Queensland and this experience flavours her writing for a unique storytelling experience. The innocence of simpler times. She found it soothing while the world seemed to be going insane.
During the first year, she published 4 illustrated children’s books and her books are getting rave reviews on Amazon and are beautifully illustrated using the latest in digital technology.
Angela’s books are perfect for parents who want to feel good about their choices and for children who love a good story. Your child will ask for them again and again and, sometimes, that will be a good thing.

E119 - Doug Noll - Listening Others Into Existence - Emotional Competency
Tuesday Sep 19, 2023
Tuesday Sep 19, 2023
This week's guest is appearing on the show for a second time, Doug Noll is a mediator and peacemaker who teaches people how to listen and validate others' emotions, which he calls Listening Others Into Existence.
He believes everyone has a deep need to be heard and validated and that listening and validating someone's emotions is the most powerful and precious gift you can give, costing you nothing.
Our culture however teaches us that emotions are bad, and we have learned from our parents to repress our emotions. This causes people to feel uncomfortable when someone is crying or angry, not knowing how to console a grieving friend, dealing with a screaming child, or avoiding hard conversations. As a result, people do not live in emotional safety, are scared of emotions, and are even afraid to admit to their fears, leading to misery, unhappiness, and despair, especially in relationships.
Doug's life became one big struggle as he was born nearly deaf, almost blind, and crippled with two club feet. He learned that emotions were not safe, and he became numb to his emotions. However, his work as a mediator and peacemaker forced him to confront human emotion straight on, and he discovered how to listen to others into existence. He taught inmates serving life sentences how to be peacemakers in maximum security prisons and then taught his skills at the highest levels of government in Washington, D.C. Today, he focuses on teaching emotional competency and de-escalation skills based on how our brains are hard-wired, which he believes is a solid foundation of empirical neuroscience.

This week’s guest has been a single parent for the last 10 years alongside being a director and then Chief Operating Officer for a consultancy business. Throughout that time, she has juggled the challenges of building a supportive and positive home environment for herself and her child whilst handling the increasing demands and expectations of an executive role in what has become an increasingly volatile world.
She has worked through various situations that at times have felt overwhelming; trying to create more time, being present for the right people at the right time, managing her guilt for not always being there for her daughter, being concerned with comparing herself to others and what her daughter might be missing or losing out on, and struggling to be the role model she want to be for her daughter. Not only all that but she has felt challenged at work about her dedication, felt vulnerable to criticism, felt the need to work twice as hard as others to prove her worth, and struggled with visibility and setting boundaries to find a harmonious balance between home and work.
Jessica Rhys-Griffiths has always been motivated by working with individuals and teams to achieve their best and so she is here today because she wants to take what she has learned and support others in similar situations to find their way to be their best selves and be successful at home and work.
